Despite a ceasefire in place between Israel and the Islamist Hamas, a rocket has been fired into the Gaza Strip.

The projectile fell within the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army said on Thursday.

According to hospital information, a 14-year-old boy was killed in the impact in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were initially unclear.

An Israeli army spokesman said that "in clear violation of the ceasefire agreement, Hamas fired a rocket a short while ago that fell inside Gaza."

"We are aware of reports of casualties in central Gaza due to this rocket," the spokesman added.

The Israeli army also announced that it had attacked the launch pad in the Gaza Strip from which the rocket had been fired.
