JAMMU: The death of two persons under mysterious circumstances in an agricultural field in a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Sunday has sparked fear and panic in the area.
Shamsher (37) and Roshan (45) were found dead on the banks of a stream at Batheri village in Billawar area, with their farming tools lying nearby, raising suspicions, officials said.
J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday expressed grief over the deaths. In a post on X, he said his office was in touch with the local MLA, and the officers concerned had been asked to investigate the matter.
According to police sources, cops rushed to the spot upon receiving information about two unidentified men lying unconscious in a field and took them to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead.

The SHO of Billawar police station, Jitender Singh, said police had registered a murder case and launched a probe. Police sources, however, did not rule out a terror angle.
On Sep 22 last year, police had recovered the decomposed body of a missing person, Maan Singh, in Ramban. Cops suspected that he was killed in a terrorist attack in Aug.
On Nov 8, the bodies of two village defence guards killed by terrorists were found near a rivulet in Kishtwar district.
