77% beneficiaries of first batch of PMAY (Urban) 2.0 okayed by Centre are women

NEW DELHI: Nearly 77% of beneficiaries of the first batch of PM Awas Yojna (Urban) 2.0 approved by the

housing ministry

are women, including single women and widows. As per ministry, nearly 3.1 lakh out of the total 3.5 lakh houses approved will be allotted to SC, ST and OBCs.
The govt had approved the proposal of PMAY 2.0 in August 2024 to provide financial assistance for construction and financial assistance for one crore houses to poor and middle class in urban areas.
The first set of houses to be built was approved by the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) on Thursday evening in 10 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
The ministry said the scheme promotes women empowerment and among the houses approved, around 2.7 lakh have been sanctioned for the women alone, including single women and widows along with 90 houses have been allotted to transgenders. “Out of the total sanctioned houses, 80,850 houses for SC beneficiaries, 15,928 for ST and 2.1 lakh for the OBC category have been sanctioned, promoting inclusiveness and equality among different underprivileged groups,” it added.
In addition to the state share under the scheme, UP is providing Rs 30,000 to each senior citizen beneficiaries who are over 70 years, and Rs 20,000 for each unmarried women who are over 40 years, widow and separated female beneficiaries.
