AA Lakers win twice more

The Kalispell AA Lakers picked up their third straight win over the Calgary Cardinals, before winning the nightcap game 12-5 over the Cranbrook Bandits in a Legion doubleheader at Griffin Field Saturday.

Game one was called after five innings with the Lakers scoring 14 runs in the second inng of a 16-0 win.

The Lakers had 17 players reach base in that inning, highlighted by doubles from Jackson Heino and Luke Nikunen.  

The Lakers (5-3) started their scoring in the first inning when Oscar Kallis was hit by a pitch and came around to score on Kaeden Kahler’s RBI triple. Kahler led the Lakers with three RBIs and added two runs scored. 

Kyler Croft started the game for Kalispell, holding the Cardinals (0-3) to just two hits and no runs across four innings. He struck out two. Miles Arrowsmith closed out the game. 

It was another game in which the Cardinals struggled defensively with four errors, leading to three unearned runs while the Lakers played a clean game.  

In game two, the Lakers scored in every inning with Cole Brink reaching base in all four at bats on his way to three runs. He drove in two while collecting three free passes and a triple.  

Cranbrook (0-2) took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, before Kalispell responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the second, with Teegan Dixon hitting a triple to get things started. Kalispell’s three runs in the inning were unearned. 

Andre Cephers went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Hunter Fann added two RBIs and two runs scored out of the leadoff position. 

Bryce Buckmaster took the mound for the Lakers, lasting five innings on four hits, with one earned run while fanning seven Bandits. 

The combination of Miles Arrowsmith and Brink closed out the final two innings for the team’s fourth straight win.
