Amazon's secret overstock section is packed with savings — our picks start at $5

I don't have to tell you that Amazon is packed with roughly a bazillion deals on any given day (yes, that's a highly scientific number). But did you know there's a secret outlet section too? It's full of overstocked items that are often marked down even further. No password required — just your curiosity and a little scrolling.

At least once a week, I ask my wife (or she asks me) where the scissors went. Sometimes they're in my home office, sometimes they're in the garage ... very rarely are they in the junk drawer, where they actually belong. With this affordable four-pack, you can keep a pair in pretty much every room in the house, plus they each come with covers to keep little fingers safe.

Sitting outside on the patio in the summer is almost perfection. The temperature is usually comfortable after the sun goes down, and summer smells like flowers and cut grass are my favorites. The only downside is the bugs. That's why a bug zapper like this one is a non-negotiable. It works better than candles and doesn't require getting greasy with bug spray. Just turn it on and forget it.

The weather's finally turning around where I live, which means it's time to hang the hammock in the backyard. If yours looks anything like mine — sun-faded, saggy and maybe a little sketchy — now's the perfect time to upgrade. This double hammock comes with a pillow and is on sale, so you'll be all set to relax and sway the summer away.

Whether you're a 20-mile-a-week runner or just want some lightweight athletic shorts for summer, these are a great option at half off. They come in five colors, have four pockets to stow everything from your car keys to your phone and feature a UPF rating of 50, so you don't have to worry about the sun.

With both a dog and a toddler who love going outside and tracking in mud, grass and other stains, a carpet cleaner like this goes a long way when it comes to keeping not only my carpet, but more importantly, my furniture, clean.

Every few days, I think to myself, "I should start meal prepping." It saves time and would help me stay fit all year long, not to mention less frantic throughout the week. Once I finally get around to it, glass containers like these are a must. For $30, you get 10 that make meal prep feel less like a chore and more like a flex. They're oven-, microwave- and dishwasher-safe, which means less plastic, less cleanup and more leftovers that don't leak or stink. Stack 'em in the fridge and call it organized eating.

I'm a huge fan of outdoor movies (even though it's been raining nonstop where I live), and at 50% off, this portable projector makes setting up a backyard theater easy. It projects up to 100 inches — way bigger than any TV in my house. And if the rain does show up? Just grab it and take movie night inside.

Freshly grated cheese is way better than the kind in the bag. It melts more easily, a block is generally cheaper, and, well, it tastes way better. Sure, it takes a bit of elbow grease, but cleaning this grater doesn't: It's dishwasher safe.

For any run or hike longer than a few miles in the heat of summer, I bring a running vest with one of these stashed inside. I usually carry a liter or two of water, but this is a great backup when you need a rapid refill and the stuff coming out of the nearest water fountain looks a little suspect.

If the water source nearby isn't inspiring confidence, this will filter it to 99.999% purity, clearing it of bacteria (like E.coli and salmonella), parasites, microplastics, dirt, sand and sediment.

Every summer, once the maple tree in my yard gets its leaves back, a family of great horned owls comes to visit. Having a monocular telescope like this means the photos I share of them on Instagram look straight out of the pages of National Geographic. Combine the clearance price with the promo codes and you've got yourself a steal of a deal.

The price of a car wash is getting out of hand. I remember when going through one of those automated washes was just a few bucks — $20 got you the full treatment. Now you're lucky to get clean wheels for that price. Two uses and this polisher has paid for itself. And it has removable, rechargeable batteries, so you won't have to worry about dragging around an extension cord.

More than 14,000 people require hospitalization every year for carbon monoxide poisoning in the U.S. Make sure you're not one of them with this essential detector. With a digital readout of CO levels and an alarm that is so loud it is impossible to ignore, you'll be able to get out of the house fast should something go wrong.

When it comes to fitness trackers, there's nothing better than a Garmin (come at me, Apple Watch fans). While the more sport-specific options can cost almost a thousand dollars, the Forerunner 265 is a much more palatable price (especially at $100 off), while still being able to store your music and track your mileage.

Looking for a tablet for streaming, note-taking and other basic tasks? You don't have to shell out the money for an iPad or iPad Air, because this Samsung Galaxy Lite can do the trick at less than two-thirds the price.

Quality earbuds shouldn't cost hundreds of dollars, and these winners from trusted tech brand Anker are proof. They produce crystal clear sound and have a comfortable fit that keeps them from budging while you're working out or bopping around the house, fans say.

"No more AirPods ever again!" one convert wrote. "I'm blown away. ... They've completely replaced my Apple AirPods. Not only are they way more affordable, but they honestly outperform them in every way."
