NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday took a jibe at Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decision to distribute kits on Eid, questioning if it was an act of appeasement.
"They were distributing kits during Eid, because they know that Hindu brothers are now awake. This government is acting like Hitler's troopers, using political figures to teach lessons. If a bulldozer is sent to a police station, who's driving it?" he said.
He also attacked the UP Police of stopping his convoy in Lucknow on the occasion of Eid, claiming that, "when I asked an IPS officer why I wasn't allowed to attend the event, he had no answer. It's unprecedented to stop an ex-chief minister from attending an event."
Further criticising the Yogi government, he said that if the BJP could count 66 crore visitors at the
Maha Kumbh
, they should also share the number of missing and deceased.
“If they could count the 66 crore people who visited Maha Kumbh, then why can't they share the count of devotees who went missing and those who died?” the SP chief said.
“What did the government do for devotees who lost their lives in accidents? Did they share the drone footage? Is it because they don’t want to talk about unemployment, farmers, and to hide other failures?” he added.
These remarks came after UP CM Yogi Adityanath, in an exclusive interview with PTI, highlighted that 66 crore devotees attended the Maha Kumbh without any incidents of violence, harassment, or disorder.
"Roads are meant for walking and those who are saying.... should learn discipline from Hindus. 66 crore people came to Prayagraj... there was no looting anywhere, no arson anywhere, no molestation anywhere, no vandalism anywhere, no kidnapping anywhere, this is discipline, this is religious discipline," the UP CM said.
"They came with reverence, participated in the 'Mahasnan', and then moved towards their destination. Festivals and celebrations or any such events should not become a medium for insolence. If you want convenience, then learn to follow that discipline as well," he continued.
Earlier, UP police established extensive security measures for Eid and Ram Navami celebrations, with DGP Prashant Kumar leading a detailed review meeting with senior state officials.
