Atlanta Dream Makes Major Announcement One Day Before WNBA Season Begins

The Atlanta Dream are ready for the 2025 WNBA season, which will start on Friday. However, before everything else, the Dream announced the final 11-player pool of their roster. Heading into the new campaign, the franchise trimmed down its players.

All-Stars Allisha Gray, Rhyne Howard and Brionna Jones secured the spots for the Dream. Their biggest addition, Brittney Griner, will also debut soon for the team. WNBA champions Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Jordin Canada also made it.

Maya Caldwell, Nia Coffey, Naz Hillmon and Taylor Thierry are all part of the team moving forward. The team's second-round pick, Te-Hina PaoPao, secured the final roster spot for the new season.

The team presented the roster that will debut on Friday against the Washington Mystics on X.

"Introducing your 2025 Atlanta Dream roster," the Dream posted.

South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley took her time and congratulated her former player, PaoPao, for making the roster. Staley had an encouraging message for her former player on social media.

"Congrats Pao! You look comfortable! You look like you belong! You look like a dream come true! Way to make us all proud….your family and it’s a lot of them and of course @GamecockWBB and FAMs!! We can’t wait to see you play! GOD on 3!" the Hall of Famer posted.

For rookies, it's usually hard to secure a roster spot, especially for second-round picks. However, PaoPao left a strong impression that got her the spot.

The 5-foot-9 guard played her final two years in college for Staley and the Gamecocks. During that time, she averaged 10.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists. She also helped the team win the NCAA title in her first year with them.
