Brittany Mahomes’ Immediate Reaction to $36M Announcement on Wednesday

On Wednesday, the Kansas City Current, a four-year-old NWSL franchise, announced that it posted $36 million in revenue for the 2024 season, the highest total in league history.

The original Instagram post by the Current, which declared "We’re making the game better for female footballers and fans across the world 📈🌎…," was quietly reshared the same day by co-owner Brittany Mahomes, wife of NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomeson her personal Instagram story, without any additional commentary.

The couple originally met in high school in Tyler, Texas and began dating in 2017 before getting engaged in 2020 and tying the knot in 2022.

Before Brittany became a public face of professional women’s soccer team ownership, she was a standout forward at Whitehouse High School in East Texas.

She earned All-East Texas honors by netting 22 goals and contributing five assists as a senior.

At the University of Texas at Tyler, she left a lasting legacy, finishing her career with 31 goals, 16 assists and 78 points (second in school history) and guiding the Patriots to consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearances in 2014 and 2015.

In 2017, Brittany took her game overseas, signing with Icelandic side Afturelding/Fram and scoring twice in five matches.

Though her playing days were brief, it positioned her perfectly to join the ownership ranks when Kansas City was awarded an NWSL expansion franchise in December 2020.

Within the NWSL landscape, Kansas City’s performance set a new standard.

Forbes now estimates the Current’s valuation at $275 million, second in league value only to Angel City FC’s $280 million, despite playing in the fourth smallest market in the league.
