The Vancouver Canucks have made their first trade ahead of the deadline, sending defenseman Carson Soucy to the New York Rangers for a 2025 third-round pick. The pick the Canucks received in the deal originally belonged to San Jose. This is the second trade Vancouver and New York have made this season, with the first being the J.T. Miller deal.

Moving Soucy opens up $3.25 million in cap space for next season. The 30-year-old defenseman also had a no-trade clause this season and needed to waive it in order to be traded to the Rangers. As for the pick coming back to the Canucks, it means that Vancouver once again has a third-round pick in this upcoming draft, as they traded theirs away to the Montréal Canadiens.

Soucy leaves the organization having recorded 16 points and 151 hits in 99 games. He also played a significant role during the organization's 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs run, averaging 16:58 of ice time over the 12 games. It is safe to say that Soucy left the Canucks in style as he scored the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in what was his final game with the team.
