Congress MP gets bail in rape case

, will walk out of jail Wednesday after a court granted him bail a second time. On March 11, Lucknow bench of Allahabad HC had granted bail to Rathore, arrested on Jan 30 for his alleged role in a rape. But Sitapur police had on March 10 filed a chargesheet in court, adding BNS Section 69 (

sexual intercourse with deceit

), which carries a punishment of 10 years in jail. On Tuesday, Rathore was also given bail under BNS Sec 69. Earlier, the accused had argued before the HC bench that he had been falsely implicated for political reasons and that the FIR against him was registered four years after the alleged incident. The FIR against Rathore was filed by the survivor who accused him of rape, criminal intimidation, and wrongful confinement at Kotwali PS on Jan 18, 2025. The woman claimed the accused used his position to build trust by giving her a position in the party's district unit.
