The controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) has announced it will delay providing aid in the Gaza Strip following a chaotic launch of its operation.

Work was proceeding to ensure secure distribution of aid in the future, the GHF said in a statement issued to residents in the region. It attributed the delay to the disorder that erupted on Tuesday and the failure of some people to obey rules.

GHF said that a new statement would be issued during the course of Wednesday announcing distribution times. In addition, two more distribution centres would go into operation, the organization said.

Following an earlier announcement, many Gazans headed to the first GHF-operated distribution centre in the southern city of Rafah on Tuesday in the hope of receiving food parcels, but chaos broke out during the relief operation.

According to the UN's Human Rights Office in Geneva, one person was killed and 47 were injured in the turmoil.
