Disney Announces New Theme Park Location in the Middle East

Having received worldwide recognition for its unparalleled contribution to the animation industry, Disney continues to expand its influence over the globe by announcing a new Disneyland theme park and resort in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.. This would mark the seventh time that the entertainment giants have opened such an establishment in the world.

Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island to get new Disneyland theme park

The mass media conglomerate confirmed plans for a new Disneyland theme park resort in the Yas Island region of the United Arab Emirates’ Abu Dhabi. However, Disney has yet to unveil an official date for the park’s launch.

Shedding more light on their vision for the recently announced theme park resort, the House of Mouse noted in an official statement, “This seventh Disney theme park resort will combine Disney’s iconic stories, characters, and attractions with Abu Dhabi’s vibrant culture, stunning shorelines, and breathtaking architecture.”

Here’s the announcement video shared by Disney:

Meanwhile, Bob Iger, who serves as the CEO of the Walt Disney Company, has stated in a financial results conference call, “We did study the region very carefully, and we know we had many opportunities. Obviously, building a theme park in a location is a huge endorsement of the location.”

Disney also shared concept art for their latest park and resort, showcasing a spiraling castle, seemingly made of crystal, at the center of Yas Island. In addition, the graphic reimagining of the facility also features a plethora of waterfall joints.

Yas Island already boasts a horde of other commercial theme parks similar to Disneyland, including Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, a 3D movie theater, the roller coaster with the highest non-inverted loop, the fastest coaster built yet, as well as the renowned SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, which currently holds the Guinness World Record for hosting the world’s largest indoor marine theme park.

The media company is set to join hands with a United Arab Emirates-based organization, Miral, to make the proposed Disneyland theme park and resort a reality. Notably, Miral is also responsible for developing all the other themed attractions on Yas Island.
