Dominion Financial creates AI assistants for real estate investors, mortgage brokers

Baltimore-based private mortgage lender Dominion Financial is joining the AI movement. On Monday, the company announced the addition of two artificial intelligence-powered assistants to help real estate investors and mortgage brokers.

The digital assistants, dubbed “Harvey” and “Donna,” were built internally under the leadership of John McClelland, who heads the company’s artificial intelligence division. Harvey will assist real estate investors while Donna is for mortgage brokers.

“Our intention from the beginning wasn’t to replace the personal relationships we’ve built with our clients, but to reinforce them,” McClelland said in a statement. “Harvey and Donna reflect the voice of our team trained to communicate clearly, anticipate investor needs, and deliver answers with precision and empathy. It’s technology designed to feel human.”

Dominion explained that Harvey will aim to support real estate investors through “real-time guidance” on fix-and-flip loans and rental strategies. It is able to explain loan programs and walk potential borrowers through documentation and eligibility requirements on a 24/7 basis.

“Real estate investors operate in a fast-moving environment. They need immediate access to information, guidance, and clarity — often before the ink is dry on a deal,” said Jack BeVier, a partner at Dominion Financial Services.

“Harvey allows us to deliver that responsiveness around the clock. This isn’t about automation for its own sake — it’s about strengthening our role as a dependable partner, even when our physical offices are closed.”

Meanwhile, Donna serves brokers through Dominion’s wholesale lending channel, which launched in June 2024. The AI assistant is designed to help mortgage professionals get fast and accurate answers about various non-QM loan options, including debt-service-coverage ratio (DSCR) mortgages. The company said the tool will help brokers reduce the amount of time spent on understanding lending criteria.

“Donna marks the beginning of a new era in innovation for Dominion. Our AI platform isn’t just a tool; it’s a leap into the future of possibilities, where technology drives speed and service directly to our clients,” said Dustin A. Wells, president of Dominion Financial Wholesale.
