'Double engine' model only emitting smoke: Sachin Pilot slams BJP; says people still trust Congress

Senior Congress leader and party general secretary Sachin Pilot on Friday dismissed BJP’s much-touted “double engine” government model as nothing more than an illusion. Pilot claimed that it generates “only smoke” and fails to deliver real progress.Speaking to reporters in Tonk, he said the model, promoted by the BJP to signify seamless governance when the party holds power at both the state and Centre, has proved hollow in Rajasthan.“The whole country now knows that the so-called 'double engine' government is just emitting smoke, it's not moving forward,” he said.Reviewing the BJP’s performance over the past 18 months in Rajasthan, Pilot alleged that the real administrative control is in the hands of bureaucrats rather than elected representatives.

He also expressed disappointment over what he said was the neglect of projects initiated under the previous Congress government."It's disheartening to see that the projects we started, approved, and even completed during our tenure are being neglected. The current government seems incapable of even maintaining those efforts," he said.Pilot further accused BJP of being more focused on currying favour with central leadership than addressing local governance issues.

"The entire machinery is busy trying to save their own positions by staying in the good books of central leaders," he said, suggesting that internal power struggles and administrative drift would likely continue for the next three years.He said that people still have faith in Congress and “ in the time to come, we will earn their blessings again.”Earlier in the day, Pilot chaired a review meeting with departmental officials in Tonk. He instructed them to urgently address public grievances, particularly around electricity supply, drinking water, and basic civic infrastructure.
