The Blue Devils may be quietly gaining ground in one of the biggest recruiting battles of the 2026 class.
Brandon McCoy Jr., the No. 2 overall player in the nation and the top-ranked point guard in ESPN’s rankings, is beginning to take shape in his recruitment—and Duke fans have reason to feel optimistic.
The 6-foot-5 combo guard out of St. John Bosco High School (CA) has taken just one official visit so far. That visit? Durham.
According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Duke is viewed as a strong contender for McCoy, who has also drawn interest from major programs like Alabama and Kentucky.
McCoy is expected to visit Alabama soon and continues to weigh offers from USC, UCLA, Kansas, Arkansas, Auburn, and more. But Duke’s early positioning could pay off in the long run.
“Brandon McCoy is the No. 2 overall player in the 2026 class,” Tipton wrote on Sunday. “The 6-foot-5 combo guard out of St. John Bosco (CA) has only taken one official visit to this point — Duke. The Blue Devils are viewed as a strong contender in his recruitment.”
For Jon Scheyer and the Blue Devils, landing a player like McCoy would be a massive win, and their biggest since adding Cooper Flagg in the 2024 cycle.
With his size, court vision, and three-level scoring ability, McCoy fits the mold of elite Duke guards who can run the show while scoring at will.
McCoy’s recruitment is far from over, but with Duke already getting the first official visit and early momentum, the Blue Devils appear to be in a great spot.
If they can hold off Alabama, Kentucky, and others down the stretch, McCoy could be the next in a long line of stars to don the Duke blue.
