Eubank Jr. Vs Benn Was Explosive, And The Rematch Will Be Tempting

Tony Bellew believes that a rematch may be too lucrative for either fighter to turn down

In April, Chris Eubank Jr. dealt fellow Brit Conor Benn a first boxing career loss after going the 12-round distance to attain their middleweight showdown bout on a unanimous points verdict.

The Eubank Jr is now promoted by BOXXER's Ben Shalom and has shot into newfound glory this year.

Eubank Jr was scored by all three judges at 116-112 after a pulsating 12-stanza slugfest, with both boxers coming out hard from the beginning and going toe-to-toe in front of 65,000 fans at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Briton was previously promoted by Warren in the past, though the duo split.

Elsewhere, after the April fight, Conor Benn remains committed to securing a rematch with Chris Eubank Jr, with September 27 proposed as the probable date for a second contest.

The pair signed contracts for a two-match deal, and negotiations are ongoing toward tying up the sequel at the scene of their initial encounter.

Meanwhile, former world champion Tony Bellew believes that the rematch is bait, too presumptuous for either boxer to turn down.

“I told everyone who would listen, ‘this fight cannot disappoint. It will be an unbelievable fight.’ It was like putting a chemical equation together, it can't do anything but explode. I think both have many options. Both have an awful lot of options in front of them. It's just down to them and what they choose, what their options will be. I do think they'll face each other again. The rematch is too lucrative to step away from,” said Tony Bellew during an exclusive interview with CardPlayer.

Benn had moved up a step in weight to fight someone who had been a ferocious opponent outside the ring.

“I believe I can go back down a weight and win a title,” said Benn on reflection before their first fight.
