Roma are working on a sale of left-back Angelino to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, and new head coach Gian Piero Gasperini could turn to one of his trusted former players in Robin Gosens to replace him, Football Italia understands.
Al-Hilal have made a series of approaches for Serie A left-backs in the early stages of the summer transfer window, including for Milan’s Theo Hernandez and Lazio’s Nuno Tavares.
An agreement with Roma for Angelino could now be struck in the coming hours, with Theo Hernandez reluctant to accept Al-Hilal’s offer, and with Lazio having turned down a bid for Nuno Tavares.

Football Italia understands that Roma are seeking a total fee in excess of €20m for the Spanish left-back.
Gosens option to replace Angelino at Roma

Football Italia can reveal that Robin Gosens is a firm candidate to replace Angelino at Roma if he decides to leave for Simone Inzaghi’s Al-Hilal.
The German full-back spent five seasons playing under Gasperini at Atalanta, coming up with 29 goals from 157 appearances in all competitions during his time in Bergamo.
As things stand, there has not yet been any contact between Roma and Gosens’s current club, Fiorentina.
Gosens joined Fiorentina on loan with a conditional option to buy at the start of the 2024-25 campaign. That option was activated at the end of the season for a fee of €7.5m.
He is a player that Gasperini admires and would like to bring to the Stadio Olimpico in the event that Angelino leaves.
