A recent awareness camp in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, provided free
eye
screenings for
diabetic
patients, focusing on early detection of diabetic retinopathy and other vision-related issues. The camp, organised by Vasan Eye Care, an ASG hospital, offered computerized eye screening, retina scanning, and comprehensive retina examinations.
Over 100 diabetic patients attended the camp, consulting specialists who explained diagnoses and possible treatments. Experts highlighted that
diabetes
can lead to vision problems, including diabetic retinopathy, which damages the retina due to prolonged high blood sugar.
The condition has two stages—one involving weakened, leaking blood vessels and another marked by abnormal new vessel growth, potentially leading to blindness.
Medical professionals emphasized that routine eye examinations are crucial for detecting and managing diabetes-related eye conditions, helping prevent vision loss through timely intervention.
