Firefighters help doctors remove metal nut from man’s genitals

KASARAGOD: Kerala’s firefighters responded to an unusual emergency recently, helping doctors remove a 1.5-inch metal nut stuck on the genitals of a 46-year-old man in Kasaragod district’s Kanhangad.
The bizarre intervention ensued when the man went to Kasaragod district hospital late Tuesday, claiming some unidentified persons had inserted a metal nut into his genitals after he had alcohol and passed out. He said he had been trying to remove it for two days and rushed to the hospital pulverised by severe pain and struggle to pass urine. When the doctors tried and were unable to remove the nut, hospital authorities sought help from the local Kanhangad fire station.
A team led by fire officer KM Shiju worked around an hour using a metal cutter and removed the nut. To avoid the risk of burns as the metal could generate heat, they kept pouring water to keep the area cool.
