NEW DELHI: The central government has launched "
Operation Sindoor
" carrying out precision strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. It said that its "actions have been focused and measured and non-escalatory in nature"."No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution," it added. This military action was a direct response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. This comes after Prime Narendra Modi gave complete operational freedom to the armed forces to decide on the mode, targets and timing of response to Pakistan.
India, following the attack, took several punitive actions including suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, cutting off trade ties and closing its borders. The relations between India and Pakistan deteriorated since the attack with the latter consistently violating the ceasefire. Pakistan on Monday night defied the ceasefire for the 12th consecutive time drawing proportionate response from Indian Army.
