French far-right extremist Éric Zemmour has congratulated the Alternative for Germany (AfD) on its result in Sunday's parliamentary election.

"What a great election success!" wrote Zemmour on X.

Zemmour said he was in Berlin at the side of AfD co-leader Alice Weidel, and published a video showing him shaking hands with her.

"The wave of freedom and identity continues to grow throughout the West," wrote Zemmour. "France will follow!"

The politician finished fourth in the 2022 French presidential election, deploying more radical right-wing rhetoric than the National Rally's Marine Le Pen.
