Frenchtown ends Wildkats comeback with walk-off

FRENCHTOWN — Aspen Courtney called game on a walk-off sacrifice fly to give Frenchtown a 9-8 victory over comeback-minded Columbia Falls in high school softball Friday.

The Wildkats (3-5) entered the seventh inning down 8-1 when Alexa Friske started a huge rally with an RBI single. 

Later in the inning Addy Bowler made it 8-5 with a single to center field scoring Ella Timlick, and an error brought Friske and Bowler home. 

After a walk, Onnika Lawrence kept the comeback going with a 2-run home run to left, cutting the deficit to 8-7. Kylie Gjesdal-Davis tied the game a few batters later on a double to right, scoring Sydnee Burke. 

In the bottom of the seventh, J Palmer singled to put runners on the corners before Courtney sent the Broncs home happy. 

Ryan Lucier threw a complete game for Frenchtown (7-1), striking out 13 batters. 

Ella Branstetter and Hailey Greene shared the pitching duties for the Wildkats. 

Troy 18, Plains 3

TROY — Leslie Gravier and Autumn Fisher homered as Troy continued its perfect start to the season over Plains. 

Gravier started things on the right foot for the Trojans (8-0) with a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the first. 

Fisher pushed the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second with a 2-run inside-the-park home run on a line drive to right field that brought in Olivia Hall. After two innings Troy led 11-0. 

The Trotters (1-10) got on the board in the third with all three runs, including a two-run grounder by Aubree Butcher, who reached on an error. 

Halle Wallace went all four innings in the circle for Troy, not allowing a hit and striking out two.
