Even as an avid skier and lover of winter, I am happy to see the temps rise and the sun out longer, though it means I have to start mowing the lawn again (hey, it's better than shoveling snow!). Spring is my favorite time of year, and for good reason: The trails in my home state of Colorado are snow-free for the first time in months, meaning my family and I are all set to lace up the hiking boots, throw our packs on our backs and hit the trail in search of wildflowers, mountain views and maybe a few leftover patches of snow to slide down. Look up photos of me on my most memorable outdoor pursuits — summiting the tallest mountain in Australia, fly-fishing in Patagonia, off-roading through the forests of Washington and Canada — and you will find a Patagonia trucker hat on my head.
