Why to Watch
1. Aces High
Max Fried (6-0, 1.05 ERA) looks to become the majors’ first seven-game winner as he faces Mariners right-hander Bryan Woo (4-1, 3.25 ERA). Fried leads all of Major League Baseball in ERA, and the Yankees are a perfect 8-0 when he starts. He has allowed one earned run or fewer in six of his outings this season.
Fried is 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA in two career starts against Seattle, both while pitching for Atlanta. Woo is coming off a rough outing last Wednesday, allowing a season-high five runs over six innings against the Athletics. He received a no-decision in the Mariners’ 6-5 win.
Woo is 2-1 with a 3.94 ERA in three career starts against the Yankees but struggled in his lone home start against New York, giving up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings last Sept. 17. Notably, he has pitched 11 1/3 scoreless innings at Yankee Stadium.
2. Judge and His Court
Aaron Judge continues his dominant stretch at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two walks in Monday night’s 11-5 win over Seattle, raising his batting average to a blistering .414. Remarkably, his only RBI came on a ninth-inning sacrifice fly.
Leadoff hitter Trent Grisham homered twice Monday and now trails Judge by just two home runs for the team lead with 12. Austin Wells (eight home runs) and Anthony Volpe also went deep, as the Yankees continue to lead the majors with 74 home runs through 41 games.
Paul Goldschmidt remains locked in, hitting .350 after a 2-for-5 performance Monday. D.J. LeMahieu (calf) is expected to be activated, adding even more depth to a Yankees lineup that has scored 44 runs over the last five games.
