In a boost to co-operatives, Parliament passes Tribhuvan bill

NEW DELHI: Parliament on Tuesday passed the bill to set up the

Tribhuvan Sahkari University

in Gujarat's Anand with an aim to create qualified human resources for

co-operative societies

The bill seeks to establish the

Institute of Rural Management Anand

as a university to be known as the Tribhuvan Sahkari University and to declare it as an institution of national importance.
The Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill, passed by Lok Sabha on March 26, was approved by Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Replying to a discussion on the bill, minister of state for cooperation

Murlidhar Mohol

said this is the country's first university dedicated to the cooperative sector. This university will be given the status of an institute of national importance and will have a capacity to train 8 lakh people every year, he added.
Stating that an estimated 17 lakh trained professionals would be required in the co-operative sector over the next five years, Mohol said that this university will help in fulfilling this need.
