The Indiana Fever have become one of the most popular teams in the Women's National Basketball Association in the past year during former Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark's time in Indianapolis.
The Fever sold out Carver-Hawkeye Arena for an exhibition game recently against the Brazilian National Team that showed the depth, enthusiasm and breadth of Caitlin Clark's fanbase.
Indiana's increased national footprint has led to big changes by the team, as announced on Tuesday.
The Fever stated that they are improving their television reach as they seek to put Clark, Aliyah Boston and their teammates' games in front of more eyeballs this season.
"The Indiana Fever have added 11 midwestern TV markets for their over-the-air local broadcasts this season, expanding into Caitlin Clark's home state of Iowa and across Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky," the website Sports Business Journal wrote.
The deal was arranged by TEGNA, a media network, which owns 64 stations across 51 markets.
It is expected to increase the Indiana Fever's footprint to 4.6 million households across the area and is similar to one made recently with the Dallas Wings, home to number one WNBA draft pick Paige Bueckers.
The new networks include Indianapolis' WTHR 13.1 and WALV 46.1 (Tegna); Champaign-Springfield (Illinois)and its WAND 17.2 network (Block Communications); Cincinnati's WXIX 19.2 and 19.3 (Gray Media); Davenport, Iowa's WQAD 8.1 and 8.3 (Tegna); Dayton, Ohio's WKEF 22.3 (Sinclair, Ohio); Des Moines, Iowa's WOI 5.1 and KCWI 23.1 (Tegna); Evansville, Indiana's WFIE 14.2 (Gray Media); Fort Wayne, Indiana's WPTA 21.1, 21.3 and WISE 33.1 (Gray Media); Lafayette, Indiana's WPBY 35.1 and 35.2 (Coastal Television Broadcasting Group); Lexington, Kentucky's WKYT 27.2 and 27.4 (Gray Media); Louisville, Kentucky's 11.2 (Tegna), and Terre Haute, Indiana's WTHI 10.2 and 10.3 (Allen Media).
