Jon Scheyer Didn't Hesitate When Naming A Concern With Cooper Flagg

In his third season as the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils, Jon Scheyer led his team to the 2025 Final Four but fell two wins short of a championship.

Now, Scheyer will have some major roster turnover going into the 2025-26 season, including the loss of All-American forward Cooper Flagg, who declared for the 2025 NBA Draft.

In his lone season at Duke, Flagg averaged 19.2 points on 48.1% shooting, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists on his way to winning the National College Player of the Year award.

Flagg is highly expected to go No. 1 overall in June's draft, where he would join Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis and the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs lucked out in the draft lottery, securing the top pick despite just a 1.8% chance.

Scheyer has been consistently supportive of Flagg since the start of his NBA draft journey. That praise continued on Wednesday’s episode of "The Brotherhood Podcast," when Flagg asked Scheyer how amazing it was to coach him.

"Cooper was incredible this year," Scheyer said. "And you know it's the fact that he showed up every day, was an incredible teammate, always came with great energy, and then I think what he did on the court speaks for itself."

When host Justin Robinson tried to ask another question, Scheyer cut in and admitted he still has a concern about Flagg.

"It would be even better if he texted me back right away all the time since he's so in tune," Scheyer added. "He has the time to send questions in the Duke MBB. He should have the time to text me back right away all the time. That's one thing I'll say."

Flagg wasn't the only Duke starter from 2024-25 to enter the NBA draft. All five starters departed, including potential lottery picks Khaman Maluach and Kon Knueppel. However, Scheyer did a good job making up for it, landing the top-ranked recruiting class, per 247 Sports.

The first round of the 2025 NBA Draft will begin on June 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
