The New York Mets rebounded from their recent loss to the Chicago White Sox with a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night at Citi Field. Francisco Lindor led the charge, homering from both sides of the plate and making a crucial leaping catch at shortstop that saved at least two runs.
Starting pitcher David Peterson delivered a solid performance, allowing just one run over 5.2 innings and improving his record to 4-2. The bullpen, featuring Huascar Brazobán and Edwin Díaz, secured the win, with Díaz recording his 12th save of the season.
Juan Soto, who had been in a slump, broke out with a 2-for-4 performance, including an RBI double in the third inning that extended the Mets' lead.
This hit snapped an 0-for-17 streak and was met with enthusiastic support from the home crowd. After the game, Soto addressed his struggles since his blockbuster move to the Mets. He particularly emphasized he has not been coming through for his teammates, but said it is only of matter of time until he starts producing for them.
"I know I've been struggling, and I haven't been there for them, but I will be... It's a matter of time, we don't know when it's gonna come through, but I'm going to keep working," he said.
Since joining the Mets from the Yankees, Soto has faced high expectations. While his overall performance has been under scrutiny, the team remains confident in his abilities. Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns noted that Soto might be "trying to do too much" under the weight of expectations (via New York Post's Dan Martin).
The Mets will return to action against the Rockies on Saturday.
