Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow has announced his retirement from football at just age 29.
Ragnow, who was drafted by Detroit at No. 20 in 2019, said the decision was "one of the hardest" of his life while announcing his departure from the NFL in an emotional post on Instagram on Monday, June 2.
"These past couple of months have been very trying as I’ve come to the realization that my football journey is ending and I’m officially retiring from the NFL," the longtime Lion wrote in his post alongside a photo of himself running out from the tunnel onto Ford Field.
"I’ve tried to convince myself that I’m feeling good but I’m not and it’s time to prioritize my health and my families future," he continued.

Ragnow added that he has "given this team everything" over the course of his Lions career. "And I thought I had more to give, but the reality is I simply don’t," he wrote. "I have to listen to my body and this has been one of the hardest decisions of my life."
The Minnesota native said the Lions organization "has been absolutely incredible throughout this process." He concluded by writing, "I can’t emphasize this enough how grateful I am for this team and all the fans. It was an absolute honor going to battle for you all."
Steelers cornerback Darius Slay commented on Ragnow's post, writing, "Congrats my guy on amazing career ✊🏽."

Ragnow's former Lions teammates chimed in too. In the comments, Taylor Decker joked, "You’re going to be so lean in like 5 months." Additionally, David Montgomery wrote, "Love you buddy, thanks for being a great teammate."
Lions fans celebrated Ragnow's career in Detroit in the comments as well. One fan wrote, "😢💔 Thank you for your huge heart and soul that you gave to this team! You will be so missed!! But you have to listen to those signals. Wishing you all the best! 💙🩶💙🩶."
Another added, "You’re the best! You’ve battled and gave Detroit your all for so many years. Enjoy the time with your family and we’re wishing you nothing but health and happiness. Much love brother. 🙌."
