A seven-year-old girl was killed in northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar, allegedly by her father’s friend in a violent outburst over a TV remote, PTI reported quoting police officials. The accused, 35-year-old Ranjeet Singh, was arrested from the Narela Industrial Area.
According to police, Singh, a labourer from Bihar residing in Bhatha Road, had been drinking with the girl’s father on Sunday. After leaving briefly, he returned to watch television while the child played on her father’s phone. When she disrupted him with the remote, he lashed out, striking her and causing her to collapse, bleeding from the mouth.
Fearing she might regain consciousness and raise an alarm, Singh allegedly struck her again with a metallic rod to her neck, a blow that is believed to have killed her. He then wrapped her body in clothes, hid it under the bed, and fled with the father’s phone.
Police discovered the crime scene in J-Block, Khadda Colony, after noticing a crowd gathered outside the house. The girl was found motionless on the ground with visible injuries. While no initial signs of sexual assault were detected, her body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Investigators tracked Singh’s mobile location to Narela and arrested him. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, police said.
