Manchester United were booed by fans at the final whistle after losing 1-0 in Malaysia against ASEAN All-Stars on Wednesday as the club's disastrous domestic campaign continued into their postseason friendlies
Amorim's side flew out to Kuala Lumpur following their final match of the season -- a 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford -- on Sunday that capped United's worst ever Premier League season with a 15th-placed finish.
But a second-half strike from Maung Maung Lwin, a winger from Thai League 1 club Lamphun Warriors, saw a team made up of internationals from Southeast Asia and players from other local leagues condemn United to a humbling defeat at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
And the local supporters showed their displeasure at the final whistle.
"I feel always guilty, I said that in the last game. I'm always guilty of the performance of the team," Man United manager Ruben Amorim told reporters when asked about the fans' reaction. "No matter what. Since I'm here for the first day, I am guilty.
"Then the boos from the fans is something that we need maybe because every game we lost in the Premier League, they were always there. So it's like if the way of playing they see is not working, they will change the way they behave.
"But I felt then like we finish, walk away and, every time, the supporters were with us. Again, let's wait for the next season."
The United boss named a much-changed team for the exhibition match but André Onana, Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte and Rasmus Højlund were among the players picked in his starting XI.
Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo were introduced at half-time.
Still, United's wait to register their first consecutive victories since March goes on.
"Of course, we should perform better," Amorim added. "We were slow and we have to have it in us to win every exercise in training and every game.
"But the important thing is that we didn't have any injuries. Some players were a risk but we wanted to respect all of the fans put all the players in the game. We should win these games but we move on."
Following the game, Amorim refused to be drawn on reports that United have triggered the release clause for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.
However, the club's CEO Omar Berrada said they have a clear plan of how to improve the squad this summer.
"I can't talk about specifics but I can say we have been planning for many months now," Berrada told MUTV in Malaysia. "We were ready for all the different scenarios and now know what we need to do.
"We have a very clear idea where we need to invest in the squad to improve. So Jason [Wilcox], his team and Ruben [Amorim] have been in talks, as I said, for many months."
United will play one more game before the squad go their separate ways for the summer. Amorim's side will travel to face Hong Kong's national team on Friday.
