BHOPAL: A 17-year-old youth died and two of his friends were critically injured when a shell exploded at the Army Firing Range in Madhya Pradesh's Datia district Friday.
The trio - Ganga Ram (17), Manoj (16), and Ramu (23) - went to Hirapur Army Firing Range in Jaitpur village. They were looking for scrap metal when they came across a shell. Believing it was a spent explosive, they tried to pry it open and it blew up, police said. Ganga Ram was killed on the spot, while Ramu and Manoj suffered severe injuries. Locals alerted police, who rescued the injured youths and took them to Jhansi Medical College. A probe is under way. Police said Army uses the firing range for training and villagers weren't supposed to enter the area, but many of them do.
