New England Biolabs® Announces 2025 Monarch Nucleic Acid Purification Scholarship Alongside Release of Updated Kits

The scholarship will recognize the core tenets of Monarch in awardees' nucleic acid purification research

, /PRNewswire/ -- Alongside the recent release of its updated Monarch® nucleic acid purification kits, New England Biolabs (NEB®) today announced a new Monarch Nucleic Acid Purification Scholarship recognizing individuals who use nucleic acid purification in their research that exemplifies the core tenets of Monarch – performance, sustainability and value.

"With this scholarship, we aim to recognize scientists of all experience levels who are using nucleic acid purification in their work to deliver research excellence, contribute to environmental stewardship, and support their communities," says James Deng, Senior Product Marketing Manager for NEB's nucleic acid purification portfolio. "We encourage anyone conducting impactful research involving nucleic acid purification to apply for this scholarship, and to learn more about the benefits of NEB's Monarch kits."

There will be three U.S. awardees, each receiving a scholarship of $2,025 to support their endeavors. Additionally, awardees and their work will be widely recognized and celebrated in NEB communications. The scholarship is open to U.S. residents aged 18 and older, and applications will be accepted through May 1, 2025.

NEB's updated Monarch nucleic acid purification kits feature an optimized column design and utilize streamlined manufacturing and packaging processes. Together, these changes help ensure that the kits provide unmatched performance and improved sustainability, all of which translates into additional value for customers. Updated kits utilize up to 30% less plastic by weight in columns and collection tubes, as well as reduced plastic in reagent bottles, as compared to the leading supplier. Comprehensive column updates also include:

  • A unique, tapered design that helps eliminate buffer carryover and allows for low elution volume
  • A clear column body enabling high visibility
  • Membrane layers newly engineered to maximize binding and filter solid contaminants
