New York Giants Rookie Cam Skattebo Reveals Headbutting Celebration With Jaxson Dart

New York Giants rookies Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo are getting to know each other, putting their heads together for the betterment of the franchise.

The New York Giants found five starters in the 2024 NFL Draft, headlined by superstar receiver Malik Nabers. The first-round pick is the key to the Giants’ offensive supporting cast, a group that will hope to foster rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart’s development.

At least in the short term, New York’s 2025 class doesn’t project to have as many immediate starters. Dart will wait in the wings behind veteran Russell Wilson and fourth-round running back Cam Skattebo will slide behind second-year back Tyrone Tracy Jr. on the depth chart.

The two could very well play themselves into long-term roles, and Dart isn’t far from shouldering the weight of the franchise. In the meantime, the Giants’ rookies are growing closer with a unique celebration – headbutting each other.

Skattebo joined “Up & Adams” to describe how the two have accelerated their chemistry.

"You know, the first day we met, he asked to headbutt me. He looked at me and said, 'I want to headbutt you,'" Skattebo said.

"We were doing a head butt yesterday, and he was doing an interview and he's like, 'Skat.' And he just looked at me and we just headbutted each other."

The headbutt seems to be more of Skattebo’s speed. He’s short, dense, and one of the most powerful runners in his draft class. He’s running to run over or through anything in his path, and it should help him carve out a sizable role as a rookie. It’s easy to see Skattebo taking goal-line and short-yardage carries away from Tracy, and his upside in pass protection lends itself to passing-down playing time, too.

The Giants don’t need (or want) Dart taking on defenders like Skattebo, but his tenacity isn’t lost on his teammates.

"He's the king of it. You know, he's a little menace himself. Not everyone sees it, but we do," Skattebo said.

The two should get plenty of time together in practice, and there’s a real chance that Dart joins him on the field by the end of the season. But those picks, like the rest of the 2025 class, were about changing the culture as much as the talent level on the roster.

According to Skattebo, Dart has the mentality New York has been waiting for.

"He's almost as crazy as me.”
