'Not one incident of crime against women in Maha Kumbh': Yogi hails success of Maha Kumbh

Yogi hails success of Maha Kumbh

NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday lauded the successful organisation of recently-concluded Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj and claimed that not "even one incident of harassment, loot, abduction or killing" against women were reported.
During his address at the state assembly, the CM said that more than the expected number of people visited Maha Kumbh, and those who came and took a holy dip returned with a sense of overwhelm.
"In 45 days of Maha Kumbh, more than 66 crore people from the country and the world visited the mela. Out of the 66 crore people who visited Maha Kumbh, half of them must have been women pilgrims, but there was not even one incident of harassment, loot, abduction or killing," Yogi said.
"More than the expected number of people visited Maha Kumbh, and those who came and took a holy dip returned with a sense of overwhelm. The international media also praised Prayagraj Maha Kumbh," he added.

UP CM also upped the ante against the opposition for criticising Maha Kumbh and said that the Samajwadi Party has deviated from the Lohia's ideas which claimed that Vishnu, Shankar, and Ram are the basis of India's unity.
"Today's Samajwadi Party takes the name of Dr Lohia but has gone away from its ideals. SP has forgotten Dr Lohia's conduct, ideals, and principles. He said that Vishnu, Shankar, and Ram are the basis of India's unity, but the Samajwadi Party does not believe in this," Yogi said.
"We talk about the development of all. A unique imprint of India's heritage and development was seen in Maha Kumbh. No discrimination of any kind was seen in Maha Kumbh on the basis of caste, religion or region," he added.
Earlier, Yogi had claimed that his government acted swiftly to control the situation after the January 29 stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, ensuring timely medical aid for victims while preventing widespread panic
"We did not allow the incident to be excessively highlighted as eight crore devotees and sadhus were present in Prayagraj and the Kumbh Mela area at the time and panic could have worsened the situation."
