Synopsis
Stock market holidays 2025: Indian stock markets will be closed on February 26, 2025, for Maha Shivratri. Trading will resume on February 27, 2025. The stock market holiday calendar includes 14 closures throughout the year, with upcoming holidays set for Holi on March 14 and Id-Ul-Fitr on March 31.

Indian stock markets will remain closed on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in observance of Maha Shivratri, a Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva. Trading will resume on Thursday after the midweek break, as per the holiday calendar issued by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE.
Despite weak signals from global markets, Indian equities opened slightly higher on Tuesday, with blue-chip indices Sensex and Nifty 50 showing modest gains in early trading. The BSE Sensex rose 67 points, or 0.09%, to 74,538, while the broader Nifty50 advanced 7 points, or 0.03%, to 22,559 as of 9:20 am. The gains were largely driven by strong performances from ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), and Zomato.
Maha Shivratri, which typically falls between February and March according to the Hindu lunar calendar, is celebrated on the 14th day of the first half of the month of Phalguna. Markets traditionally observe a full-day closure for the festival.
Stock Market Holidays 2025
The Maha Shivratri holiday marks one of 14 scheduled market closures in 2025. April will see three additional holidays, including Shri Mahavir Jayanti on April 10, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, and Good Friday on April 18.
Maharashtra Day, observed on May 1, will conclude the first half of the year’s holidays. Markets will also shut on August 15 for Independence Day and on August 27 for Ganesh Chaturthi.
In the final quarter of 2025, market closures include Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra on October 2, Diwali-related holidays on October 21-22, and Prakash Gurpurb on November 5. Trading will end the year with a holiday on Christmas, December 25.
Indian stock market hours run from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with a pre-open session starting at 9:00 am. Markets remain closed on weekends and during public holidays, as specified by the exchanges' holiday schedule.
