One killed, three injured in Russian airstrike on Kyiv, say Ukrainian officials

KYIV — At least one person was killed and three others injured in a Russian airstrike targeting Ukraine’s capital Kyiv early Sunday, according to local authorities.

“The body of a man killed in the enemy attack was found in the Darnytskyi district. He was found on the street, near the epicenter of the explosion.

The man's identity is being established,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram.

He added that the strike triggered fires at non-residential buildings across Kyiv’s Darnytskyi, Obolonskyi, and Solomianskyi districts.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, said two of the injured victims were hospitalized.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that its air defenses intercepted 13 of 23 Russian missiles and shot down 40 of 109 attack drones launched overnight.

In response to the airstrikes, the Polish Armed Forces said on X that it scrambled fighter jets and elevated its ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems to their highest readiness levels.

“Russia's only response to US proposals for a full ceasefire so far has been to launch more missiles, drones, and bombs against Ukraine and its people. Time for more pressure on Moscow,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha posted on X. — Agencies
