Hollywood’s biggest night of the year has arrived: The 2025 Academy Awards is here.
The star-studded ceremony, celebrating excellence in film, is taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and broadcasts live on March 2 beginning at 7 p.m. ET. Conan O’Brien will host the ABC telecast.
Yahoo Entertainment has been tracking the Best Picture race throughout awards season, and Anora is the film to beat, with Conclave as its closest competitor.
Emilia Pérez is the most nominated film this year with 13 nods overall, but the controversy around star Karla Sofía Gascón's past X posts negatively impacted the Spanish-language musical crime dramedy’s Oscar campaign. Gascón, nominated in the Best Actress category, is expected to attend after sitting out much of awards season. Her co-star Zoe Saldaña is the frontrunner in the Best Supporting Actress category.
The Brutalist and Wicked are the films with the second-highest number of nominations, with 10 each.
The Los Angeles wildfires led to the nominations being postponed twice in January, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences leadership was determined to press on with the show. Academy CEO Bill Kramer said that in addition to filmmakers being honored, the show will recognize first responders and celebrate the enduring spirit of Los Angeles.
Something else that will be different this year is that there won’t be live performances of the Best Original Song nominees. Instead, the show will spotlight the songwriters behind the tunes.
