Patagonia's Presidents' Day sale is unreal — save up to 50% on the most popular picks

Full disclosure: I'm someone who loves being outdoors as much as possible. Yes, even in the dead of winter. And now's my favorite time of year to stock up on clothing and gear. Why? Because Patagonia's Presidents' Day sale is ridiculously good — one of the best among Presidents' Day sales across the web.

The brand is offering up to 50% off some of its most popular items, like the comfortable, stylish Better sweater ($69, from $139) and the versatile but surprisingly warm Nano Puff jacket ($119, from $239). These cold-weather essentials are designed to keep you warm, dry and weather-ready. It's more than just jackets. The iconic Black Hole wheeled duffel — my pick for everything from weekend escapes to weeklong expeditions — is also discounted.

Whether you're hiking, skiing or just layering up for brisk morning walks with coffee in hand, this sale is your chance to upgrade your outdoor wardrobe without demolishing your budget. Don't wait — these rare deals tend to mean stock goes quickly. And while you're stocking your closet, check out other great Presidents' Day style deals.

The first time I threw on a Nano Puff jacket, I thought to myself, "How the heck is this thing going to keep me warm?" It's way less puffy than down-insulated coats I have worn, but it managed to do the trick in the middle of the desert in the wintertime as temps dipped below freezing, all without making me look like the Michelin Man. It's on sale for both men and women, albeit in a very limited range of colors and sizes, including hooded and nonhooded versions.

Stay warm without looking poufy. Snow and light rain will be no match for this cozy number: It's made from recycled nylon treated with DWR (durable water repellent) and 700-fill down to keep the warm air in. The long cut (below the knees) ensures you stay toasty, elastic cuffs lock in heat and a two-way front zipper makes layering easy. Hidden zip pockets keep essentials secure, and when the sun comes out, you can pack the whole thing into its own chest pocket.

Legend has it that when Yvon Chouinard first started this outdoor-wear company named after the remote region in South America, the high-pile fleece used in the jackets was sourced from toilet seat covers. (Wow were the '70s a wild time!) Fifty years later, the fabric sourcing has changed, but the design has remained relatively the same — and this jacket is as stylish, warm and windproof as ever. The men's version is on sale too.

Do you live in a part of the country where it gets cold and wet in the winter? If so, forget buying a down jacket. As soon as those feathers get wet they stop keeping you warm. The synthetic insulation in this Macro Puff won't do you like that. You can dunk this in a lake and it'll still keep you insulated. As long as you don't mind the more technical look, this is one jacket that will keep you toasty warm, no matter the weather.

I love this so much, I own at least six of them in different designs and weights. Don't let the lightweight moniker fool you — this fleece is warm, but not so warm that you'll end up sweating like crazy at the office or at home. If I were to give it a name, it would be perfect weight. Perfect to wear indoors during winter, perfect on its own outside in spring and fall and perfect for cool summer nights by the campfire. Perfect!

I love a good overshirt. Most of the winter, I wear a crewneck sweatshirt while typing away, but every now and then, it isn't quite enough to keep the chills at bay, which is where an overshirt like this comes in. I keep mine in my office and throw it on when the snow is falling, and most of the time, I end up wearing it all day. This specific one is on sale in five colors, but the pumice (pictured above) is my favorite.

One jacket, three ways to combat winter. This thing is a layering MVP — wear the waterproof shell solo, rock the insulated liner on its own or zip them together for full storm protection. The stretchy quilted inner jacket delivers breathable warmth while pit zips dump heat fast. A roomy hood, powder skirt and glove-friendly cuffs keep snow where it belongs (not in your sleeves).

Made from 100% recycled materials, it's easy on your shoulders and the planet. The asymmetrical harness hugs your body, a front zippered pocket keeps essentials handy and tuck-away straps hold a jacket or yoga mat. Eight liters of smart storage, zero hassle.
