Drake Maye is getting used to the Mike Vrabel vibe. He’s making the necessary adjustments.

“I think it’s coming in here, have your head on a swivel, get to work,” Maye said during his media availability Thursday. “I think that’s the vibe I’ve caught.

“Don’t spend time outside. We’re in the building. We’re Phase 1 (of offseason program), just finished first week of Phase 2. We’re only here four hours,” Maye went on. “So I think it’s kind of figuring it out with the new coaches.

“Who’s learning? Who’s spending time outside of here learning it, and who wants to help us win when the season comes. I think that’s what they want.”

Maye said Vrabel’s message has been clear. He wants players who are committed to the program and committed to each other. He wants guys who “know when to have fun, and know when to put their head down.”

In short, he wants players who want to win.

Maye appreciates the mindset and said he was looking forward to the process.

“He’s so comfortable being a head coach. He’s done it before. He’s won a lot of games. I’m looking forward to getting things going,” Maye said. “You can see he’s trying to install a new identity. I think we’re building toward that, trusting in his ways. And I think everybody’s kind of catching stride as we come off Phase 2.
