Polar Bear Cubs Spotted Soaking Up the Short Arctic Summer By Frolicking in the Grass With Mom

Our magnificent Earth gives us so many biomes to explore and call home, but one of the planet's harshest environments is home to some of the most beautiful moments. I'm talking about the Arctic, of course, where cold and darkness reign supreme.

The Arctic Circle doesn't even see the sun for six months of the year, so what we could consider to be summer is just a brief moment in time near the North Pole. Still, animals like this mother polar bear and her two cubs know how to make the most of each moment of sunshine.

National Geographic and BBC photographer Martin Gregus spent two months on expedition in the Arctic to observe one of Earth's most ferocious predators, but the other side of polar bears that he witnessed was even more special. The way these bears roll in the flowers without a care in the world is truly priceless!

This is too sweet! It didn't take long for these adorable bear cubs to convince Mom to play with them, which is a scenario that looks familiar to most mothers. Even though she may have been foraging for bird eggs and Arctic ground squirrels, two things they can eat turning the non-frozen months, she couldn't resist her babies' precious request!

"Oh to be a polar bear rolling around in the summer flowers," a commenter named Beth daydreamed. Doesn't it look magical? These polar bears spend most of their time on the ice or in freezing water, so this is a wonderful change of scenery for them too.

No matter how cute and idyllic this National Geographic scene may be, a viewer named Monique issued an important reminder: "Ah yes, the thing that will eat me while still alive. Still cute though." I get what you mean: I would pet them if I could!

National Geographic is a wonderland for enchanting animal videos like this one, so only time will tell what other adorable polar bear scenes we'll see next.
