Tourists in Italy had to flee after Mount Etna erupted. The volcano sent groups sprinting to get away from the frightening scene. The eruption produced explosions heard as far away as 30 miles. According to news reports, an Italian observatory group said there was a “partial collapse” of the northern flank of the volcano’s southeast crater, which has produced spectacular lava flows during recent eruptions in the last few months.
