Pune bus rape case accused detained in Shirur: Police

, early Friday, apprehended the man accused of allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman inside a bus at Pune's Swargate bus station in

Shirur Tehsil
Dattatray Gade

was taken into custody around midnight from Pune's Shirur tehsil, according to PTI reports.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning when Gade (37), a

history-sheeter

, allegedly assaulted the woman inside an ST bus. The survivor, who was employed, had been waiting to catch a bus to Phaltan, situated approximately 100 km away.
The accused individual, Gade, reportedly came up to her and deceived her by stating that her bus was stationed in a different location. He guided her to an unoccupied Shivshahi bus within the depot premises. After persuading her to enter the vehicle, he followed her aboard and allegedly perpetrated the assault before departing from the location.

The accused has a

criminal record

with six cases involving theft, robbery and chain-snatching in Pune and Ahilyanagar district. He had been released on bail in 2019 for one of these offences.
To capture the suspect, authorities deployed thirteen police teams across various locations in the state.
On Thursday, the search operation in Shirur Tehsil, Pune district, involved the use of sniffer dogs and drones to scan through sugarcane fields.
Law enforcement authorities on Thursday had issued a monetary reward of Rs 1 lakh for any details leading to the apprehension of the accused.
