Real Madrid have no faith in defender’s fitness amid chronic injury problems

Ferland Mendy is one of many Real Madrid players ruled out for the campaign as the club look to close out the season on a high note.

With underwhelming performances throughout the season, Real Madrid could be set for a huge makeover this coming summer – a summer where Mendy’s future remains uncertain.

Joining the club in 2019, Mendy has been a loyal servant for Real Madrid over the years. However, his potential and growth have always been stifled by a concerning fitness record.

This season, in particular, Mendy has struggled with a slew of injuries, which has restricted his game-time to 14 appearances in La Liga.

According to journalist Rodra P (via Inaki Angulo Twitch), Real Madrid have major concerns about Ferland Mendy’s injury record at the Bernabeu and have virtually no faith in the defender’s ability to return to peak fitness.

This is hardly surprising as Mendy has indeed struggled with muscle injuries throughout the past few seasons.

As a matter of fact, Real Madrid consider it a miracle that Mendy was able to recover his fitness during the second half of last season and help the team win the Champions League and the league title.

The club believe such a miracle might not happen again, especially considering the fact that the Frenchman has a chronic injury that may only get worse over time. Therefore, it won’t be surprising the Frenchman being allowed to move on in the coming summer.

Real Madrid have already bolstered the fullback unit by signing Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer.

They are now actively looking for a left-back, which has put pressure on not only Mendy but also Fran Garcia.

Alvaro Carreras has notably emerged as a top target for Los Blancos and it will be interesting to see whether or not this will have any impact on Mendy’s future at the club.
