Shopify and Affirm launch Shop Pay Installments in Canada

Shopify, the commerce platform that provides essential internet infrastructure, and payment network Affirm, have expedited expansion of their global reach.

Canadian Shopify merchants with early access now have the option to offer Shop Pay Installments, a service exclusively powered by Affirm, to their customers.

This is the first time the product has been made available outside the US.

The availability of Shop Pay Installments will be extended to all Shopify merchants in Canada and the UK by the summer of 2025.

Subsequent developments will introduce capabilities for cross-border transactions in the US, Canada and UK markets.

Shopify chief operations officer Kaz Nejatian stated: "We're thrilled to launch Shop Pay Installments in early access to Canada as our first step beyond the US.

"Our partnership with Affirm expands our global reach, giving shoppers the flexibility to pay over time, and drives higher conversion rates for merchants worldwide."

The strategic alliance between Shopify and Affirm is poised to progress into Australia and Western Europe shortly, thereafter, initiating with France, Germany and the Netherlands.

Affirm is eager to interact with local customers, business partners, financial institutions and regulatory agencies as it pursues international market penetration.

With each new market launch of Shop Pay Installments, local merchants will be able to activate the product directly from their Shopify admin dashboard without requiring additional development or technical integration.

Customers will have the opportunity to split eligible purchases into biweekly or monthly payments upon approval. Customised payment plans will be available with interest rates starting at 0% APR, and shoppers will not be subject to late or hidden fees.
