Tigers' Tarik Skubal Makes MLB History During Cubs Game

The Detroit Tigers had another dominant outing against one of the best teams in the National League.

Now being 19 games above .500, the Tigers have continued to stay hot with a 6.5 game lead in the AL Central, eyeing the No. 1 seed come postseason time.

In a 3-1 win over the Chicago Cubs, Detroit continued to display dominant baseball while maintaining the best record in the MLB.

It was another flashy display from the reigning AL Cy Young award winner, Tarik Skubal, as the Tigers' ace went 7.2 innings, allowing eight hits, one run, and striking out six batters in 94 pitches.

Tarik Skubal makes MLB history in win over Cubs

Skubal notched another win in the game, and he finished his 7.2 inning masterclass while making Major League Baseball history.

His performance on Friday night makes him the first pitcher in the last 125 seasons to register 90 or more strikeouts while allowing three or fewer walks in an 11-start span.

His ability to stay consistent for the Detroit Tigers over the past few seasons has helped with the team's success.

Since 2024, Skubal has a 24-6 record in games that he starts, and he could be on pace to earning a second straight Cy Young award if the lefty can continue his dominance this season.

Once October comes, there will be a chance that the Detroit Tigers will give the rest of the American League a run for the money and sneak their way into an opportunity at the World Series.
