The UK Finance Board has confirmed the reappointment of Bob Wigley as chair for an additional three-year term, extending his tenure until February 2029.

The decision was made at the board’s latest meeting.

Wigley has served as chair since UK Finance was founded in July 2017, following the merger of the British Bankers’ Association, Payments UK, the Council of Mortgage Lenders, the UK Cards Association, and the Asset Based Finance Association.

Wigley said: “I am very pleased to accept the board’s offer of re-appointment as chair of UK Finance.

“It has been a privilege to serve the world-class finance and banking sector in the UK since we formed UK Finance. I look forward to continuing to deliver for our members, their customers and society.”

With a career spanning Morgan Grenfell and Merrill Lynch, where he served as EMEA chairman from 2003 to 2009, Wigley also held a position on the Court of the Bank of England between 2006 and 2009.

His past roles include membership of the Takeover Panel, the FSA’s Senior Practitioners Panel, and the Council of European Securities Regulators Market Consultation Panel.

Wigley has also been a key figure in promoting the UK’s financial sector. He led a group of industry leaders in producing the report 'London, Winning in the Decade Ahead', focusing on London’s competitiveness as a global financial hub, and chaired the Green Investment Bank Commission.

He has also chaired and invested in several fintech companies and played a central role in establishing TheCityUK, where he continues to serve on its advisory board.

UK Finance represents more than 300 firms in the UK, covering credit, banking, markets, and payment-related services.

The trade association formulates policies, engages with the UK Government, regulators, and media, and fosters industry collaboration to enhance efficiency and customer outcomes.
