The Washington Commanders are playing in Spain for the first time in NFL history and are excited for the matchup.
The Washington Commanders have played overseas before. They just have never played in the country they are scheduled for this season.
Washington is scheduled to take on the Miami Dolphins at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid on November 16, 2025. It's the first game in NFL history to be played in Spain, as the league continues their expansion of international play.
Last season, it was the Philadelphia Eagles who played the first game in Brazil to open the season. Now that the Brazil game is going to be played for a second consecutive season, the league is looking for other territories.
And the Commanders are thrilled to be making history on the Iberian Peninsula.
"That's probably a great reason for me to have some extra time before heading over to Madrid, which is going to be a really cool experience for everybody," Commanders head coach Quinn joked during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. "It's actually my first international game.
"My first year in the NFL I went to Japan for a preseason game with the 49ers, but this is my first real one. A lot of people have gotten the chance to do it, and I'm really looking forward to it."
Washington is going to take on a mediocre Dolphins team that missed the playoffs last year, and is in the process of shaving off as much cap space as they can.
On paper, the Commanders should be able to come away with the first game in Spain with a victory.
