CPI(M) slams BJP over President’s rule in Manipur, calls it a ‘political move’

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday criticized the imposition of

President’s rule in Manipur

, calling it a sign of the "utter bankruptcy" of the BJP-led government. The party accused the ruling coalition of using the move to buy time to resolve internal conflicts rather than addressing the crisis in the violence-hit state.
"President’s rule has been imposed not in the interests of Manipur but to buy time to settle internal conflicts within the ruling coalition," the CPI(M) said in a statement.
The central government placed Manipur under President’s rule on Thursday and suspended the state assembly, following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The CPI(M) claimed that Singh, whom they called "the main culprit," was forced to resign due to legal scrutiny over his alleged partisan role in the ongoing ethnic violence.
The Left party also accused the BJP-led Centre of neglecting Manipur’s crisis, highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the state.

"This exposes the sectarian approach of the ruling party, which puts its political interests above those of the state and its people," the CPI(M) said.
Rejecting President’s rule as a solution, the party demanded immediate negotiations with community representatives and political parties to restore normalcy and democratic rights in the state.
Manipur has been engulfed in ethnic violence for nearly two years, with clashes leaving 250 people dead.
