, /PRNewswire/ -- Eat Real, a national nonprofit working with preK-12 schools to transform the nutrition and health of our nation's kids, is thrilled to announce over $600,000 in donations from the DOC Longevity and Health community.
Inspired by a small group of thoughtful, committed scientists and leaders, DOC explores 'truth in medicine' with a mission to scale high-quality, innovative science in longevity and healthcare. The inaugural DOC gathering, held last October, focused on scaling the best in longevity science and medicine, with topics including neuroscience, women's health, AI, and aging. Eat Real's CEO, Nora LaTorre, delivered a keynote about the children's health crisis in America, sharing that today's three year olds will see a heartbreaking 693 fewer sunsets than their parents. The leading cause: ulta-processed food-related disease. "Our kids are the ones getting sicker, sooner," LaTorre shared. "Today in America, 67% of kids' calories are ultra-processed."
But there is a fast, scalable, and enduring upstream solution, and Eat Real can deliver it. "Public schools serve 7 BILLION meals to 30 million children across the country," says LaTorre. "Through our data-driven preK-12 school food certification program, Eat Real can improve the nutrition of what's on those breakfast and lunch trays, and prevent disease before it starts."
Members of the DOC community were so compelled by LaTorre's talk that they volunteered their support in the room. Michael Tang, of the Cyrus and Michael Tang Foundation, pledged $250,000 to launch Eat Real certification in his home state of Nevada. Several other DOC leaders, including Kevin Ryan and Pascaline Servan-Schreiber, pledged significant support.
The gifts will be leveraged as seed funding to help Eat Real reach students in as many as 10 new states in 2025, and grow their impact to 1,000,000 students nationwide. "We are so grateful to the DOC community for their generosity and support," says LaTorre. "It means the world — and the future — to our kids."
DOC co-founder Jordan Shlain is the matchmaker for the two organizations, as he is also Eat Real's Board Chair. "The DOC community is committed to finding new and innovative ways to extend health and happiness. Improving the longevity of our kids is a number one priority for all of us. We do it through science and medicine; Eat Real does it through food and community."
This year's DOC gathering will be October 12th - 14th, 2025 at The Estate Yountville. Learn more at DOC.health.
